Hand axe and Man Serpent greatsword are also great Str weapons. Honestly the Demon great axe isn't worth it. The Great clubs AR isn't that much lower than the Demons Greataxes and weighs about half what the greataxe weighs. The Zwei does pretty good damage on a Str build. The Black knight axe is pretty good. Good R1s and fun R2s.

Black Knight Greataxe - best Strength PvE weapon? Now I've only played Dark Souls for about 100 hours, so I still consider myself a noob (halfway through NG+). I'm primarily a strength build (40 STR 40 END 18 DEX) but it isn't perfect as it was my first time. I beat my entire first play through with a Lightning Hand Axe, which my friend laughed ...It's also relatively fast. The DGA's 2-handed R2 isn't much better than the DGM's, it is again a vertical only hit, but it has a shorter wind-up, but also has shorter range. It's R1 is the normal mostly vertical greataxe swing, which can stun-lock rather easily. I'd say the DGM is a bit better if you are looking at 2H.
It's fine 1-handing it. You trade damage for more defense. As far as I can recall, the 1-hand moveset is actually better. Identical rolling sweeping attack, identical R1, but a comboable R2 (though I don't know how you'll land it). Wow, I missed this. Stacking strength, vitality and endurance is going to get you far. If you want to go even further, you can put some points into either intelligence or faith and buff it.
